Once again, my jeep and I embark­ed on the “Secret Car­pa­thi­ans” adven­ture with Alek from Rusti­ca Expe­di­ti­ons as our local gui­de and Nils from NPL Over­land as our sup­port­er and evening enter­tai­ner. The 10-day tour was cha­rac­te­ri­zed by an infi­ni­te­ly natu­ral land­scape, some­ti­mes chal­len­ging tracks, the­r­e­fo­re also some psy­cho­lo­gi­cal and mecha­ni­cal fail­ures, but over­all also by the cohe­si­on of the group. I am the­r­e­fo­re very, very hap­py to recom­mend Alek and Nils for fur­ther adven­tures in the last free 4x4 para­di­se in Euro­pe. With this in mind — cu-Again!

Dear Nils, we very much hope that you have made it home safe­ly and that you are doing well. We still can’t quite belie­ve that this won­derful trip has real­ly come to an end. We enjoy­ed it to the full! It was one of the most beau­tiful Tuni­sia and desert trips we have been on. The tour gui­des you cho­se are very spe­cial peo­p­le! I was allo­wed to take part in this tour as a pas­sen­ger with my nephew — and I have not reg­ret­ted it! It is a uni­que expe­ri­ence to get to know the desert this way. Big prai­se for the enti­re orga­niza­ti­on to Nils. It was real­ly ama­zing what the Tuni­si­an gui­des ser­ved for din­ner in the evening. The­re was not­hing to com­plain about! Sim­ply per­fect and you always felt safe and in good hands with the group. It’s an expe­ri­ence you’ll remem­ber for a long time! Thank you for that!

Dear off­road fri­ends. It was alre­a­dy the third time that I was in the Saha­ra with NPL-Over­land and Nils. And YES.…it cer­tain­ly won’t be the last time. The­re is some­thing magi­cal about the desert that is hard to put into words. My tip: Sim­ply book NPL and expe­ri­ence the breath­ta­king beau­ty of the Tuni­si­an desert with your own eyes (by car). I wat­ched the sun­ri­se every mor­ning and let my mind wan­der. One of the high­lights was the fresh­ly baked bort that the Tuni­si­an gui­des lovin­g­ly and proud­ly pre­pared in the sand oven every mor­ning. A big com­pli­ment for that. The deli­cious din­ner was also fresh­ly pre­pared over the fire every evening. After­wards, we all sat tog­e­ther around the camp­fi­re and loo­ked up at the end­less star­ry sky. Dear Nils, many thanks for the gre­at orga­niza­ti­on and the won­derful time with you and the Tuni­si­an gui­des. It was a gre­at group. I was a pas­sen­ger in the Lan­dy with Gün­ter and had no desert expe­ri­ence. My impres­si­ons of the pre­pa­ra­ti­on, orga­niza­ti­on, plan­ning, pro­ce­du­re, exe­cu­ti­on, fri­end­li­ne­ss and team spi­rit far excee­ded my expec­ta­ti­ons. Fur­ther­mo­re, I can only ful­ly agree with Wer­ner’s expe­ri­ence report. But I would like to add one more thing. Vere­na and her son Lucas put up a bra­ve fight. Not every fami­ly does that. It was a gre­at time with you all. THANK YOU FOR THAT

At this point we would like to take the oppor­tu­ni­ty to wri­te a report about our trip with NPL. Short ver­si­on — for all tho­se who don’t want to read so much — we would go on a trip with Nils again at any time. Honest, open and pro­fes­sio­nal from A to Z. For all tho­se who want to know more… Befo­re boo­king: Very pro­fes­sio­nal, indi­vi­du­al, com­pre­hen­si­ve advice on all trips. The most important thing here is hones­ty in rela­ti­on to expec­ta­ti­ons. We don’t sell what cos­ts a lot, but what you want to do! Pre­pa­ra­ti­on for the trip: Even after boo­king, always available and pro­fes­sio­nal in terms of the neces­sa­ry pre­pa­ra­ti­ons for the trip. Even when faced with the chall­enge that your own insu­rance com­pa­ny sim­ply does not want to insu­re the coun­try. Tra­vel arran­ge­ments: Mee­ting point at the fer­ry, get­ting to know each other… then the crossing to Tuni­sia and through cus­toms. Ever­y­thing went wit­hout a hitch. Of cour­se, it’s an exci­ting expe­ri­ence with such packed vehic­les. Once we arri­ved in the coun­try, after a gre­at night in the hotel with a hear­ty break­fast, we went to the gas sta­ti­on to set off in the direc­tion of the desert camp. As we were able to expe­ri­ence the tour with our 4‑year-old son, we would like to take this oppor­tu­ni­ty to say a spe­cial thank you to the who­le group for under­stan­ding the one or other break and the time he was allo­wed to do some­thing with you! Here is a clear note about tra­ve­ling with child­ren. This is not a recrea­tio­nal tour with sight­see­ing. Your kids need to have some tra­vel expe­ri­ence and be sadd­le fit. This should­n’t be the first adven­ture you go on. For us, it was a com­ple­te suc­cess with hap­py child­ren and par­ents. Saha­ra: Rea­ching the camp on the evening of arri­val is alre­a­dy the first chall­enge. Next time we’ll take the air out of the tires… :-) The first evening in the desert is spent get­ting to know the very nice Tuni­si­an gui­des, eating deli­cious food and going to bed ear­ly. The next few days begin with won­derful sun­ri­ses and end with some long days of dri­ving… But always with lots of new impres­si­ons and gre­at expe­ri­en­ces. We had a lot of fun in the tour group. Even the return jour­ney tog­e­ther to cus­toms and by fer­ry to Ita­ly main­tai­ned the posi­ti­ve mood. All in all, we had a very nice time. Now I would like to give you some very spe­cial details, which can be dif­fe­rent for ever­yo­ne: — Some very long dri­ving days, we were awa­re of that, but it must be clear. — Food: we had enough food for 10 days… But the food was so good that my wife and child hard­ly nee­ded any­thing extra — Water: We nee­ded about 80 liters. We could also have used the drin­king water from our sup­port vehic­le… Then 60 liters would have been enough for us — Fuel: We used up almost all of the 160 liters. As a petrol­head, you should defi­ni­te­ly take that into account. Now it only remains for me to say thank you once again. Thank you Nils, Artur and Walid for orga­ni­zing and accom­pany­ing us. Thanks to the par­ti­ci­pan­ts for the time tog­e­ther and not for­get­ting a thank you to our Tuni­si­an accom­pany­ing team. We look for­ward to the next trip.

The tour to the lost lake was exact­ly how I ima­gi­ne a trip into the vast­ness of the desert to be. The team around Nils is first class and pro­vi­des sound sup­port in every situa­ti­on. The vast­ness and tran­quil­li­ty of the desert did me a world of good. In the evening we had a real­ly out­stan­ding din­ner with 4 cour­ses by cand­le­light! Over an after-work beer around the camp­fi­re, we tal­ked about the day’s expe­ri­en­ces until we all fell blissful­ly into our tents. This is exact­ly how a vaca­ti­on in the desert should be. If I have any­thing to com­plain about the tour, it’s that I’ve put on 2 kilos. Thanks Nils, Artur and Vual­id, I’ll be back!

As new­co­mers to off-roa­ding, we real­ly enjoy­ed the tour with Tom our gui­de. Level 1 was just right for us green­horns. The first four days with our Jim­ny GJ were good to get used to with inte­res­t­ing places and views over the Croa­ti­an moun­ta­ins to the Adria­tic Sea. As a local, Tom always had inte­res­t­ing sto­ries to tell, even about the not so nice years during the war with Ser­bia. We were well set up with our rear tent, even if it took a litt­le lon­ger to put up and take down. From Win­ne­tou loca­ti­ons, wild hor­ses, spec­ta­cu­lar­ly beau­tiful land­scapes with won­derful mea­dows to the later chal­lenges of very rocky ascents and des­cents, with the neces­sa­ry reduc­tion in air pres­su­re, ever­y­thing was the­re. But we were able to mana­ge ever­y­thing well, Tom was always very hel­pful and pru­dent so that even dif­fi­cult pas­sa­ges could be taken wit­hout dama­ge. gre­at pho­tos and vide­os now remind us of the enchan­ting places. Thank you also for the inte­res­t­ing con­ver­sa­ti­ons and coo­king duels with the pas­sen­gers in the evenings after the tours. Keep up the good work NPL Over­land.

Uni­que! Alek­san­der impres­ses with his uni­que know­ledge of excep­tio­nal places. All the effort of clea­ring the paths is reward­ed by the long-for­got­ten scents of wild mea­dows, clear views of a star­ry sky and breath­ta­king vis­tas. We — my wife and I — enjoy­ed the tour “Croa­tia — Moun­ta­ins and Sea” very much, so here are 5 stars The short ver­si­on: The boo­king — uncom­pli­ca­ted The tour — just right for our level of expe­ri­ence, gre­at natu­re, wild camps and camps The gui­de — Tom was and is a super guy and that has to be men­tio­ned expli­cit­ly here. The tour with him as our gui­de was gre­at fun. The long ver­si­on: Boo­king with NPL-Over­land was uncom­pli­ca­ted, ques­ti­ons about the tour and boo­king were ans­we­red quick­ly. The line to Nils is short. We cho­se the Croa­tia tour becau­se we were unable to rea­li­ze our plan to dri­ve off-road in Croa­tia on our own due to a lack of pre­pa­ra­ti­on time and expe­ri­ence. In addi­ti­on, it is defi­ni­te­ly bet­ter to tra­vel with at least two peo­p­le. We found the offer from NPL 4 weeks befo­re our vaca­ti­on, the inquiry and boo­king was uncom­pli­ca­ted, ever­y­thing went smooth­ly. Now that the tour is over, we have to say that our Croa­ti­an gui­de Tom took us to places we would never have found on our own. We cho­se the level of dif­fi­cul­ty asso­cia­ted with the tour becau­se we have only been off-roa­ding sin­ce 2019 and were only able to com­ple­te two weekend off-road trai­ning ses­si­ons due to the pan­de­mic. We were the­r­e­fo­re not loo­king for a tour whe­re you spend 6 days scrambling up rocky river­beds, pushing your equip­ment to the limit and pos­si­bly only mana­ging 40 km per day. If this is what you are loo­king for, this tour is not for you. The first 4 days were more gent­le through breath­ta­king natu­re. On the 5th and 6th day, the roads were defi­ni­te­ly not gent­le on the mate­ri­al and we were glad to have equip­ped our Mitsu­bi­shi L200 and its stan­dard chas­sis with under­ri­de pro­tec­tion and rock sliders. Both were nee­ded. The­re was a lot of uphill and downhill dri­ving over rocks and stones. In terms of dri­ving tech­ni­que, this was of cour­se the big­gest chall­enge during the tour, for the dri­ver it meant a lot of dri­ving fun as well as con­cen­tra­ti­on, and for the co-dri­ver a lot of adre­na­line — at least in our case. Our gui­de Tom is a super guy, as a Croa­ti­an he real­ly knew his way around, was fri­end­ly and always wil­ling to share his know­ledge with the group. In the end, we spent ano­ther day tog­e­ther at the last camp we visi­ted befo­re Tom set off again to explo­re new tracks. All in all, we were and are total­ly thril­led and can only recom­mend this tour to beg­in­ners and “over­land­ers with off-road ambi­ti­ons”. Howe­ver, it should be bor­ne in mind that the dif­fi­cul­ty level is 1 out of 5 accor­ding to the NPL, and the­re were par­ti­ci­pan­ts for whom it was too “onroad”. If you are alre­a­dy expe­ri­en­ced and like it a bit “toug­her”, you should choo­se level 2 or 3 out of 5. It was just right for us. Thumbs up!
