Desert adventure with lots of driving fun

After our ferry crossing from Genoa to La Goulette / Tunis, we spend a night in a very good hotel in Tunis or Hammamet before heading directly to the south of the country via the highway to Es Sabria, where we fill our vehicles and canisters with fuel for the last time before embarking on the great adventure of “Sif es Souane”. Endless dune landscapes await us, which demand everything from us and our vehicles.

The start of our journey takes us through the fine sand dune landscapes of the Sablazett. Sand as white and fine as powdered sugar welcomes us at the start of this magnificent ten-day ride on the dunes.

Over the next few days, our route is determined by the course of the dunes. We are only given a rough direction… we are drawn further and further south. Our days are characterized by finding the best way through endless sand hills. Our journey is like surfing on waves of sand. There is no predetermined route. Pure driving fun! On the way, with a bit of luck, we meet Algerian desert nomads with their camels and learn about their way of life in this endless sea of sand and rubble, which is so unknown to us.

Our local team consists of experienced desert guides, cooks and a mechanic. Every evening we set up a large tent and are provided with freshly cooked dinner and breakfast. This allows us to keep the supplies in our vehicles small and save weight. An unbeatable advantage on this challenging tour through the foothills of the Grand Erg Oriental.

Towards the middle of the tour, we slowly make a loop and head back in a northerly direction. On the evening of the tenth day, we arrive back at our camp in Es Sabria. Before we slowly make our way towards Tunis, we spend some time in Douz, the gateway to the Sahara, to have a cup of tea, watch the hustle and bustle or buy a souvenir or two. Here everyone can put their bargaining skills to the test again.……

Due to its nature, this trip places different demands on the vehicle and equipment than our other trips. Precisely because we will be self-sufficient in the desert for ten days, a much more precise travel preparation is necessary here. In order to discuss all requirements in advance, extensive initial telephone contact with us is absolutely essential for this tour. Of course, you will receive detailed checklists from us after booking, which are included in the travel documents and should make your travel preparations easier.

We expressly point out that the tour offered here is Desert Extreme and that vehicles and drivers must be suitably qualified. The best way to prepare for this tour would be to take part in our Pure Desert Tour to the Lost Lake beforehand. We avoid sightseeing in any form as far as possible. Adventure dunes, driving in the sand, silence and breathtaking starry skies are definitely in the foreground here.

Everything was perfect on this trip! Miracles included! A challenging route that demanded a lot from the drivers and vehicles. We reached the finish together and raised the flag! Thanks to the team for the excellent organization and support. Thanks again to everyone who helped with the repairs. Especially Abdul, because without his spare part our HDJ80 would probably have remained in the Sahara. See you soon — we could be on the road again right away.

A big thank you to everyone who was involved, i.e. Nils, Walid and the locals for the great tour to the highest dunes in Tunisia. Thumbs up to us, the participants, too… we were a cool bunch. This also explains the incredible achievement that we accomplished. After 3 attempts, we made it to the “summit cross” as a guided group with vehicles. Super! In addition to the aforementioned therapeutic effect of the ups and downs, I will always remember the group dynamics, the great locations along the routes (or off the beaten track) and the last meal at the camp. A real feast. Top and highly recommended!
