TRAVEL PROCEDURE
This itinerary is our guideline planning. The exact route is based on current, local conditions, sometimes also on the wishes of the group and should primarily be a safe, exciting and relaxing trip!
The official starting point of our trip is Nador/Morocco. Our destination is the port of Tangier Med.
We will take the ferry from Sete to Nador. If you would like to join us, please contact us and we will send you our ferry details for comparison. Of course it is also possible to arrive earlier. The meeting point is in Morocco.
Day 1
Arrive in Nador, change money, go shopping, refuel. Drive west along the coast (approx. 1 hour) to our first campsite where we enjoy dinner together in the restaurant.
Day 2
Continue south with the first unpaved roads from the foothills of the High Atlas. We then change direction to the east and continue quickly to Taza, where we spend the night on a plateau on the edge of the national park and stay with a Berber family.
Day 3
Shortly after setting off southwards, we drive most of the way on small gravel roads and cross the High Atlas over the Tizi-bou-tabel Pass. We spend the night at a campsite at 1600m above sea level just before Midelt.
Day 4
Continuing south-east, past the Cirque de Jaffar, we follow small roads and paths through beautiful mountain landscapes via Imilchil towards the Dades Gorge. Depending on how far we get, we spend the night either free or on a campsite.
Day 5
The route takes us through the impressive Dades Gorge, where we change direction to the west after passing through and take a look at the Todrha Gorge before setting up camp for the night in the Tinghir region.
Day 6
Today we leave the foothills of the High Atlas and the landscape clearly becomes more southerly. Along kilometers of river oases with thousands of palm trees, we reach Erfoud. Here we replenish our food and fuel supplies. On the horizon we see the first sand dunes, which we get closer and closer to on the way to Khamlia near Merzouga, where we spend the night in a beautiful little family campsite right at the foot of the large dunes.
Day 7
We drive around the foothills of the Sahara, the Erg-Chebbi dune area and those who wish can also try out their driving skills in the sand. In the early afternoon we are back at our beautiful little Ocean de Dunes campsite where we can chill out or simply enjoy some free time.
Day 8
Our route takes us further southwest along the Qued Ziz, where we soon leave the asphalt and make our way along stony and sandy tracks. We set up camp somewhere in the middle of nowhere in a beautiful spot.
Day 9
We continue along the tracks in this deserted area, along the Algerian border, until we finally reach our destination for today, the Oasis Palmier campsite in Zagora.
Day 10
Today is a rest day. If you want, you can take a trip to the local mountain, visit Zagora and the souk or take the car to Mohamed and Abdoul’s garage in Sahara Zagora for a quick check-up or to grease up.
Day 11
Recovered, we set off again. The first 60 km on the tarred road to Mhamid, where we continue only on sandy tracks. At some point, the dunes of Erg Chegaga appear on the horizon, where we look for the right track among the many variants that lead us to our Berber camp, where we eat and spend the night in Berber tents.
Day 12
We leave the dunes after a few kilometers and, depending on the water level, we drive through or around Lac Iriqi and then continue on stone tracks to El-Mhamid. There we fill up our tanks and continue to the Cascade de Tissint where you can even take a dip if there is enough water. We look for a nice place to set up camp.
Day 13
We continue via Tata, where it gets more mountainous again, as we have taken the route to Tafraoute in the Anti Atlas to see the Paintet Rocks with the famous Chapeau Napoleon. We spend the night at a campsite in Tafraoute.
Day 14
Now it’s downhill again, out of the Anti Atlas to the southernmost point of our trip, a beautiful campsite near Icht with an inviting bar and good food. We enjoy being pampered here.
Day 15
The next day we drive along small roads through the foothills of the Anti Atlas to the Atlantic Ocean. We spend the night at a campsite next to the ruined fort from the time of the French occupation, Fort Bou Jerif. If time permits and if you feel like it, you can make a detour to Plage Blanche.
Day 16
We are slowly starting to think about the long journey back. Our route therefore follows the Atlantic coast northwards for a long time until we change to the highway to escape the traffic chaos in Agadir without any problems until we reach Tarhazoute, where we spend the night on a beautiful terraced campsite with a view over the Atlantic.
Day 17
The journey continues north along the Atlantic to Essaouira. In this beautiful fishing and artists’ town, which is well worth seeing, we have time to stroll around the town, visit the fishing port and fill our stomachs with all kinds of delicacies from the sea. We spend the night in the beautiful Riad Dar Al Bahar just 300m from the center.
Day 18
On the way to Marrakesh, we can make a stop at an argan cooperative if we wish. Our destination for the day is the Camping Relais du Marrakesh. Time to rest a little or take the shared cab to the center and enjoy Marrakesh by night.
Day 19
Marrakech. Time for a stroll through the city or a city tour with a guide. This night we are also staying at the Camping Relais du Marrakesh.
Day 20
Today we visit the famous Ouzoud waterfalls where we also spend the night nearby at the beautiful Camping Zebra. (Variant day 20 from Marrakech directly to Kenitra Plage)
Day 21
Depending on your mood, we will drive the 350km overland or on the highway to Kenitra to Plage Camping right by the sea. (Variant day 21 from Kenitra to Chefchaouen)
Day 22
Today’s destination and the end of our Morocco trip is the blue city of Chefchaouen. Visit the town and enjoy a leisurely dinner at the campsite.
Day 23
Drive to the ferry port in Tangier.
